After showing a new trailer as part of the Microsoft E3 2014 Press event yesterday, Moon Studio’s Game Director Thomas Mahler stopped by IGN’s stage to talk about their lovely looking 2D platformer Ori and the Blind Forest.
Mahler said that Ori and the Blind Forest has been in development for four years they took their inspiration from games like Legend of Zelda Link to the past and Super Metroid, saying that he wanted people to feel the same way that they did when they played those classics.
Ori and the Blind Forest was described as a “Metroidvania” type of game that features a massive world to explore and that once players begin the game they can travel through the entire world without any load times at all. He also talked about getting the feel of the game right, saying that they wanted “to get back to design that was really, really good. Mahler also noted that one and a half years of the development time was spent just on perfecting the controls.
Mahler did not go into much detail in regards to plot; simply stating that it was a coming of age story of a forest spirit and that he wants players to develop an emotional relationship with the characters.
Ori and the Blind Forest is scheduled to hit both Xbox One and PC this fall.
