Mario Kart 8 to get Free Mercedes-Benz DLC

Players will soon be able to add some style and luxury to their Mario Kart 8 experience because Nintendo has announced that they will be releasing new Mercedes-Benz themed DLC for the Wii U racer.

Starting on August 27th, Mario Kart 8 owners will be able to download three different Mercedes-Benz karts; the GLA, the 300 SL Roadster, and the W25 Silver Arrow.

In addition to the karts, Nintendo will also be hosting a worldwide online event called the Mercedes Cup. The event runs from August 27th – September 23rd and will allow players from around the world to compete against each other for the top spot, and undisclosed prizes.

A software update, which is also scheduled to go live on August 27th, will provide some new enhancements to Mario Kart 8, such as:

  • The ability to display the course map on the t.v. during races.
  • Stat tracking – Most frequently used character. Win/loss record from online races. Amount of coins collected.
  • Memory of the most recent custom kart settings, even after the system is powered down.
  • Improvements to the stability of online play.

The August 27th release date also coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the Japanese release of the original Super Mario Kart for the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo in the USA)

The Mario Kart 8 Mercedes-Benz DLC, as well as participation in the Mercedes Cup will all be free and will launch August 27th.
