Spartan Games has licensed Halo for the purposes of making tabletop miniatures. They are planning at least two games, one for space battles and one for ground battles.
“Our design team are huge fans of Halo and this opportunity is the icing on the cake for them” said Neil Fawcett, Spartan Games Creative Director, “After six years of successfully creating our own games and models, we can now work with Microsoft to bring epic Halo spaceship battles to gaming tables around the world.”
The press release showed two images of concepts of models for the UNSC “Battlegroup Leviathan” and the Covenant “Fleet of Valiant Prudence.” These include three different ships each. However, there is at least one other game in production. Spartan Games also announced a game based on the ground battles of Halo.
“And if that’s not enough,” said Fawcett, “Hard to tell what is more exciting: invading Reach with our Covenant Fleet or assaulting ground defenses with Spartans and UNSC Marines?”
Tabletop miniatures games like Warhammer 40,000 and Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures are games played on a tabletop battlefield using plastic, resin or metal models to play out wars, skirmishes and battles, generally using dice to determine results of attacking and defending. They differ from tabletop role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons in that they are generally on a larger scale and don’t follow a narrative adventure.
Spartan Games is known for producing tabletop miniatures games like Dystopian Wars, Firestorm Armada and terrain meant for use in a variety of miniatures games. No possible release window or any information on these games was announced outside of the two pieces of concept art.
