The newest game in the line of One Piece brawlers, that exists within the extremely long line of “Warriors” (Dynasty, Samurai, Orochi, Hyrule, etc.) titles will be released in the United States on August 25th for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC. This marks the One Piece Pirate Warriors series’ physical debut in the US, with OPPW and OPPW2 having been released only digitally for PS3.
The game’s timeline will stretch (heh) from the very beginning of the hugely popular One Piece saga up until the kingdom of Dressrosa. With the expanded coverage of plot comes the inclusion of even more playable characters and big-name bosses to fight. Using the power of the PC and PS4, Bandai Namco also promises more fluid action and an even larger number of on screen enemies than the famous 1 vs 1000 hack n’ slash series is famed for.
Though many feel that the Dynasty Warriors series has accumulated quite a bit of rust over the years, hardly changing from game to game, and having a large number of expansions or spin-offs changing specific parts of numbered entries, it has been proven time and time again that when given the privilege of using another company’s IP, (The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Quest) Bandai Namco always delivers a fresh, inspired, content-packed love letter of an action game based around that series.
The pre-order bonus for the game at most retailers is a DLC pack containing two costumes and two missions. Exclusively at GameStop, a pre-order will not only get you the costumes and mission content, but also a steel case with art based around the standard retail box.
We here at Nerd Bacon look forward to the return of the Straw Hat crew and all the ridiculous demon-fruit powers found in the One Piece series this August.
