The largest mystery surrounding the release of Crystal Dynamics’s hotly anticipated Rise of the Tomb Raider has finally been solved!
Publisher Square Enix cleared up any remaining confusion surrounding Rise of the Tomb Raider’s exclusivity deal with Microsoft, announcing that the game will indeed be hitting PlayStation 4 and PC in 2016.
“Rise of the Tomb Raider will be available for Windows 10 and Steam in early 2016. The game will be a console exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360 for one year after its initial launch, coming to PlayStation 4 in Holiday 2016.” Read a press release issued by Square Enix earlier today.
Controversy over whether or not Rise of the Tomb Raider would journey beyond Microsoft platforms erupted at Gamescom in Germany last year when developer Crystal Dynamics announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be released exclusively for Xbox One and Xbox 360 in 2015. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer later tried to clarify the issue, but instead shrouded the game in more mystery when they said that the game was a “timed exclusive” for Microsoft consoles, thus leaving the door open for Rise of the Tomb Raider to eventually make it’s way to rival Sony’s PlayStation 4.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will continue the story of series heroine Lara Croft that began with 2013’s fantastic franchise reboot, and centers around Lara’s race against time to discover the secrets of immortality before it falls into the hands of a shadowy organization known as Trinity.
