It seems like just yesterday when Nerd Bacon opened its doors to the online world. August 2013 was the inaugural month for us as confetti and streamers exploded from computer screens across the globe. Not quite, but it was an exciting day, nonetheless. For those who don’t know, Nerd Bacon was founded by 2 high school friends with a love for everything video gaming. As their collections grew and grew, the 2 struggled to find ways to showcase their passion, especially when it came to oldschool retro games from the 1980s and 1990s.
So one night over a bottle of tequila, the idea was born with a simple text to Nerd Bacon co-founder The Cubist. “Let’s start a website that encompasses everything in the nerd entertainment world. Movies. Board games. Video games. Music. Food. And whatever else we want.” Said Nerd Bacon co-founder, Nerdberry. And so they did. But it didn’t take long to realize that maybe the stars were a little out of their reach on this one, so they tapered back to a more singular approach:
Nerd Bacon will always strive to be different from the big guys. We will always be passionate about video gaming and video gaming culture, and we will wear it on our sleeves. Providing cookie-cutter news and generic reviews is NOT satisfactory. No filler. No bias. NO bullshit! Love games. Love bacon. Love your community. Love Nerd Bacon.
In a nutshell, that is our ultimate goal: To serve YOU and give you something different. In fact, Nerd Bacon actually started as NerdSoHard.com, an idea that sounded cool originally, but more and more sounded like awkward fetish porn site as time went on. But we do still own the rights to that domain name if anyone wants to shoot a good fuck flick.
We can’t beat the big wigs in the gaming industry, so why try? Nerd Bacon is owned and operated by 2 normal(ish) guys. Nerd Bacon‘s authors, writers, and contributors alike are all volunteers of the site who provide all of their services completely free of charge and entirely free of compensation from anyone. If that’s not passion and enthusiasm, then please tell us what is.
CELEBRATING 2 YEARS
In honor of serving you the most fun and original content on the web for the last 2 years, we will be writing reviews on original sequels! “What does that mean?” You say. That means that the games we will be playing and reviewing are all the 2nd game in their respective series, regardless of whether or not they actually have the number “2” in the title. Super Metroid, Mario Kart 64, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, etc. You get the picture. Come celebrate the 2s with us all month long! We will be adding to the list as the month goes on.
