A Des Moines Pokemon Go Event Is Expecting 1000 People To Attend

It’s no secret that Pokemon Go has become a global phenomenon.

The free-to-play mobile phone game has grabbed numerous headlines on its march to becoming the fastest game to reach the 10 million download threshold.

In the relatively modest city of Des Moines, IA, a Facebook Meet Up event for Pokemon Go reached an astounding 1000 confirmed attendee’s Wednesday afternoon.

NerdBacon first reported on the event last Monday, noting the surprising pace at which  Pokemon Go players were RSPV’ing to the event, which reached 400 confirmations in less than 12 hours.

At this point, there are only twenty people left on the planet who are NOT playing Pokemon Go.

Event organizers met with Des Moines city officials this week to obtain their blessing to go forward with the event, which is scheduled to take place at the Des Moines Sculpture Garden, in the heart of the downtown area.

Miguel Baires, the organizer of the Pokemon Go Meet Up event, says that the city was open to the group conducting the event as planned, but had a number of guidelines for the organizers to adhere to, such as: keeping litter to a minimum, no solicitation, and not blocking traffic while hunting those elusive little virtual critters.

I asked Baires for his reaction in regards to his event crossing the 1000 confirmed attendees mark.

I am incredibly nervous, excited and still can’t believe this is happening. Hosting a huge meet up with people who love the same thing as me is a dream come true.”

Pokemon Go – Iowa’s Des Moines meet up will take place Sunday, June 24th at 4pm.

NerdBacon will be on hand to cover the event.
