Death Stranding Release Date Leaked? Walmart Canada May Have Blown Another Surprise

Would someone please unplug Walmart Canada’s computer?

The maple leaf adorned version of the U.S. mega retailer might be responsible for yet another big video game leak. This time the victim is Hideo Kojima’s massively anticipated opus, Death Stranding.

Walmart Canada is currently showing a release date of June 30th for Death Stranding, despite an official announcement from developer Kojima Productions.

When asked to elaborate on the suspicious date via a Twitter post, Walmart Canada stated “As per the information stated for this item, this is a pre-order that will ship in June.”

What is particularly vexing considering that the industry’s largest celebration, The Game Awards, will be taking place next week on December 6th, and a new trailer plus release date for Death Stranding was rumored to be one of the big surprises of the show.

Event founder/organizer Geoff Keighly actually included Walmart Canada in a tweet this week, stating that there were a lot of surprises that were forthcoming, and that eyes were on Walmart Canada to not spoil anything. Readers may remember that Walmart Canada posted a number of release dates on their website in the days leading up to E3 2018, which spoiled a number of announcements from numerous companies prior to the big event.

It is normal though, for retailers to post a place holder date in a general time frame for a game they know is coming, but have not yet received solid release date information from that title’s publisher.

It’s unclear if that’s the case here, however, given Walmart Canada’s recent track record, and the fact that new Death Stranding info has been a staple of the Game Awards ever since the title was announced, it’s a development that is worth watching.
