Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition New Trailer Released

Announced a few months back at the very end of a trailer highlighting DmC: Definitive Edition, Capcom has finally shown off what we’ll be seeing in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition. The new trailer explains why this upgrade of 2008’s Devil May Cry 4 is more than simply a remaster. It isn’t just 1080p and 60FPS; there’s a new difficulty mode, new costumes, combat rebalances, and three new playable characters. Lady and Trish can finally be used to stylishly slay hordes of demons, and Dante’s twin brother and fan favorite katana wielder Virgil returns in his Devil May Cry 3 attire. Hopefully, questions about DMC4 protagonist Nero’s origins will finally be answered with Virgil’s inclusion, as it seems Virgil has story cutscenes of his own.

There are a few specific pieces of info that the trailer doesn’t include. Lady will be playable only on Nero’s missions, and Trish only in Dante’s. Despite these limitations placed on the new characters, Virgil plays in any mission he damn well pleases. Alternate costumes have actually been made to be displayed even during the game’s cutscenes. I especially appreciate this fix after my recent time with DmC: Definitive Edition, whose costumes change at the drop of a hat when certain cutscenes play and completely cramp my style.

It’s gotta be the shoes.

At the end of the trailer, we’re given the vague release window of Summer 2015. Another bit of information that may disappoint collectors (myself included) is that this will be a digital only release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Hopefully, just as there was for the recent remaster of Resident Evil (2015), there will be a physical release in at least one country so that diehards can import. It’s easy to see why Capcom is taking this route after the record breaking digital sales of RE, though.

Though admittedly biased as a huge Devil May Cry fan, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition feels refreshing after having games released as little as five months ago (Borderlands The Pre-Sequel) get the current gen makeover. In a perfect world, they’d give Dante all new missions instead of having him clean up Nero’s mess in the second half of the game. Perhaps that’s too greedy of me. Looking forward to DMC4SE? Are you tired of remasters or are you hoping a specific one gets announced soon? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to Nerd Bacon for more updates. We leave you with this SSS quality new art of all five playable characters.
