During Electronic Art’s E3 2018 Showcase, EA Play, fans of the renowned space opera franchise Star Wars were rewarded with a few treats to prove DICE’s commitment to supporting the latest game, Battlefront II, in the wake of Battlefield V.
Starting with a reminder of the new content coming next week to the game in the Solo season, including a new map of the planet Kessel, Lando’s Millennium Falcon as a new hero ship, the return of Extraction mode, and new skins.
This was followed up with news of a “squad system” being added to the game this summer, in order to make “team up much easier and play with your friends.” This seems to suggest the squad system will incorporate sort of matchmaking and online co-op, which Battlefront II currently does not have.
The news then switched to new modes, including a new Heroes mode focused around dog-fighting with hero ships, and “looking ahead a little bit more” a new “multi-player sandbox experience focused around capturing command posts and attacking and taking out capital ships.” From the sound of it the heavily requested Conquest mode from the original Battlefront games, or a mode influenced by it, will also be arriving.
Capping off the Battlefront II news was the reveal of something Battlefront fans have been requesting just as much as Conquest mode; Clone Wars content. First off, the planet Geonosis will be arriving with “multiple levels” including the “largest level we have ever built for Battlefront.” In addition to Geonosis, the frequently “leaked” hero General Grievous is finally confirmed, along with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Count Dooku, and Anakin Skywalker.
And The Clone Wars Season will be arriving to Battlefront II “this year.”
