IndieBox, the company responsible for making physical versions of your favorite indie PC games, has announced Monday that they are officially ending the subscription service, which began in 2013. The IndieBox subscription service was a monthly service, where you would get a crate (similar to Loot Crate) containing a physical copy of a PC indie game, the CD of the soundtrack, and one or more limited edition collectables. The subscription had cost $24.99, but recently got increased to $34.99 due to “current market value.”
While three IndieBox crates were announced for the remainder of Autumn (Torchlight II, Crypt of the Necrodancer, and To The Moon), only Torchlight II will be sent out. When asked what would happen to the Crypt of the Necrodancer and To The Moon crates, IndieBox responded on Reddit by stating “We’re still working with those developers to figure that out.”
To those of you subscribed to the service, IndieBox will be automatically ending your subscription after Torchlight II is sent out, according to their announcement letter. For those who have a subscription plan for longer than a month and still have months remaining on their plan, IndieBox stated that they will be taking care of you to check your email for steps on how to conclude your account. I reached out to IndieBox for any additional comments or details, and while they have no additional announcements at this time, they told me to ensure you are aware that they are not closing down, but simply ending the subscription model.
The exact comment, which was quoted from their announcement letter, was:
“Never fear! IndieBox is not shutting down; we are simply changing direction as a business. You may not know, but IndieBox has already been powering some of your favorite online stores for game developers (with a lot more coming!).“
