Microsoft Xbox One News

by Dovahkyle

The Xbox One has become the center of our home. Not only as our family go-to for our every gaming need, but also our one-stop Blu-ray player, Netflix streamer and Skype caller. This system has yet to disappoint with more than one way to control the console. With the Xbox One SmartGlass app I can control the console with my phone, not to mention waving my hand or speaking to the console will also allow control. I have been enjoying Need for Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts for the last 3 weeks and besides the lack of local multiplayer modes on most of the releases, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

My patience will be wearing thin as I sit and wait on some of the most anticipated releases of all time this year. This is not a complete list, but it’s most of the releases that at least have an announced release month this year:

If any of you are familiar with my obsession, then you will know my most anticipated (and already pre-ordered) release is The Elder Scrolls Online. I have, in another article, stated why I am so excited about this game, so here are a few more I just can’t wait to get my hands on:

Kinect Sports Rivals

Cover

Developer: Rare

Publisher: Microsoft

Release Date: April 8, 2014

First of all, the game scans the player and creates a digital version of him/her…need I say more? Okay I will: Bowling, Tennis, Wake Racing, Soccer, Climbing, and Target Shooting! If you enjoyed Kinect Sports for the Xbox 360 then this game is going to blow us all away. Pre-season is still free for download on Xbox Live and being that this game is console specific, you won’t want to miss your chance to play this game.

bowlingNot only does the Kinect track movement of limbs, but fingers, hands, and even facial expressions! The smallest of player movements will effect the success or failure of the player. The digital version of the player learns to compete just like the player, and when the player is away from the console, the digital version will compete on his/her own. This is going to open up a whole new world of fun and exercise for the whole family, rated E for everyone, it’s sure to be a blast for all. So Move the furniture and gather friends and family, this is not a calm, relaxing game; this is an intense, competative, action filled joy ride. You verses the World.

Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein-The-New-Order

Developer: MachineGames

Publisher: Bethesda Softworks

Release Date: May 20, 2014

As unbelievable as this might sound, I have never played a Wolfenstein game. I guess I have been inadvertently awaiting the best sequel yet. In an alternate reality where the Nazis won WWII and they rule the globe with intimidation and fear under the command of General Deathshead. You become Captain Blazkowicz, an american hero destined to fight back when no one else will.

wsEvil Nazi robots and super soldiers will stop at nothing to cast down this would-be hero. I’m a big fan of anything shooter and an even bigger fan of a game I don’t have to play online to fully enjoy. By the little information I’ve been able to find on the game, it looks like there may be a level of stealth mechanics involved to add to the already amazing shooter gameplay. I look forward to enjoying my first Wolfenstein on the Xbox One and I can’t wait to play a campaign with a good story. Seems like I just have to keep waiting for the new Halos to get my storyline needs met.

Destiny

Developer: Bungie

Publisher: Activision

Release Date: September 9, 2014

Oh Bungie, how I have missed your sweet face. This has got to be one of the most anticipated games of the year. An open world, action/adventure, first person shooter, RPG. Wow, I can’t wait to get my RPG addiction back on. The last good Action/RPG I played was Fallout New Vegas, and this title looks like it’s going to blow everything else out of the water.

destThere are three Guardian races to choose from: Humans, Awoken, and Exo. There are also three classes to choose from: Hunters, which are designed after “Bounty Hunters”. Bungie claims this class as influenced by Han Solo (Star Wars) and characters from Clint Eastwood’s Man with no name. Warlocks, or “Space Wizards” will mix weapons with special powers. They are influenced by the Jedi Knights (Star Wars), Morpheus (The Matrix), and Gandolf (Lord of the Rings). Titans, which are heavy weapon and melee experts. This class is based on Bungie‘s own Master Chief (Halo) and the Stormtroopers (Star Wars…again).

Not being classified as an MMO, but instead a “shared world shooter”, this could be game genre I never knew I needed. Instead of being able to see and interact with all players on a server, Destiny will do a kind of “on the fly” matchmaking, which will allow the players to be sharing the world with only a few “matched” players. I am extremely excited about this game which sounds like it has created a completely new genre.

The link above will take you to Amazon where this product is available for right under $60. It seems a little steep for a stinkin remote, but if SmartGlass, voice activation, waving your hand, or just using the Xbox One controller isn’t enough for you, then pick this snazzy little thing up. Just recently released world wide, it could keep you from having to, heaven forbid, plug in your controller every once in a while. I see the point, but your not going to catch me paying $60 for a glorified channel changer.
