Keiji Inafune’s spiritual successor to his classic Mega Man series, Mighty No. 9, has finally received a release date.
The game, which has been crowd-funded through Kickstarter, will finally release on September 15th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PC, both digitally and in physical form, according to an announcement released today on the U.S. PlayStation Blog. Versions of Mighty No. 9 will also make it to the PS Vita and the Nintendo 3DS.
Mighty No. 9 follows the story of “Beck,” one of nine mighty robotic siblings designed to battle other robots in a “Battle Colosseum,” an outlet created by the government to relieve the stress of the populace through entertainment. “Beck” and his brethren were at the top of the ranks, until one day the robots were hacked and infected with a computer virus which caused them to go rogue. “Beck” is Mighty No. 9 and stand as the only one that remains unaffected by the virus, so therefore its up to him to set things right and stop his former robotic comrades.
Mighty No. 9 is a 2D side-scrolling action shooter which has been designed as a modern extension of the classic Mega Man series that features all the robot destruction goodness of the 8 and 16-bit classics. It will include 12 stages in the single-player campaign, various co-op and challenge modes, and a feature that lets you switch between 8 and 16-bit versions of the soundtrack.
Mighty No. 9 is due for release on September 15th and will be published by Deep-Silver.
