EA arrived at Gamescom in Germany this week with a few developmental goodies to show off to the gaming faithful, one of which was the very first gameplay trailer from the upcoming Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst.
This pre-alpha footage gives us some insight into how series protagonist Faith makes her journey from a troubled teenager trying to make good by working as a “runner,” to a full-fledged hero for an entire city.
Of note in the new Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst footage is improved and smoother hand-to-hand combat that compliments its unique take on the platformer genre. It’s also worth noting that Faith does not try to use any weapons during the new trailer, as EA said that they were scrapping that feature from 2008’s initial Mirror’s Edge incarnation.
EA has not yet set a firm date for Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, which is due out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, beyond the nebulous “2016” designation.
