Klassic Versions of Favorite Characters Return in Mortal Kombat X – with VIDEO

MKX - Klassics

With a recent (and unusual) midweek update to Mortal Kombat X, the kollection of klassic kostumes is komplete!  MKX includes 6 of the original palette swapped ninjas, 4 male and 2 female.  Check out this video demo of me playing a few rounds with each klassic character and keep reading for specific details on how you can get them all well!

Klassic skins for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptileand Ermac have all been provided FREE over the course of subsequent updates to the game.  Ermac was the latest to drop during this most recent update, which as of writing this is Version 1.07.

If you want the klassic skins for Kitana and Mileenayou’ll have to do a little more work.  First of all you’ll need a suitably powerful mobile device.  I’ve been using a Samsung Galaxy Tab A with minimal setbacks.  Download and install the Mortal Kombat X app; it’s also free, but it’s a huge download.  Once installed, you’ll have some work to do.  It’s  a bit time consuming, but it’s not all that hard.

Important:  For your mobile achievements to carry over to your console version and vice versa, the two accounts need to be linked via a WBPlay account.  (You’ve probably noticed this option in the lower left of the main menu in the console version.)  It is very important that you create an account and link the account to both the app and the console game.  Do this before making any progress on MKX Mobile!

For Kitana, all you need to do is level up one of your character cards to Level 40.  This won’t be too hard, just make sure you pick out at least one card to do as much fighting with as possible.  (In all likelihood you’ll develop “3 favorites,” at least early on.)  You’ll also be receiving occasional “Level Up” cards.  Be sure to use your Alliance Points to buy random cards (they aren’t used for anything else anyway), load the app at least once a day for your daily reward, and sink all of your “Level Up” cards into a single character.  Also attach any equipment cards or free special move upgrades to this guy to make him stronger.  This will let you move ahead more quickly in Battle Mode, thus earning you more and more XP.  Once you drive up one character to 40, you can develop a more rounded strategy if you’re interested in progressing through the app in other ways.

To get the klassic skin for Mileenayou’re going to have to keep a careful eye on your app.  The requirement says you must complete a “challenge tower,” though it’s not immediately obvious what a “challenge tower” is.  On the main menu, you’ll see 2 options: Battle Mode and Faction War.  Neither of these are what you need.  What you’ll have to do is wait until a third “Challenge” option is added.  I’m not sure when these will pop up.  Apparently the mode was delayed, and these challenges are time dependent, running only 24 hours.  So be sure to check back every day for this option, restarting the app and checking for updates.  If it’s anything like the Koin Multiplier, it should eventually settle into a weekly routine.  Once you’re there, it’s all downhill.  This mode consists of a series of increasingly difficult ladders.  The good news is that the first one will probably be pretty easy (you should be able to make it through with simple bronze cards) and once you beat this first one, that’s all it takes to unlock the costume!

The terminology used for the MKX app unlocks can be confusing.  If you have any trouble or questions (about these or any other unlockable skins) let me know!

Find out what these ratings mean and how I rate video games.

I collect as much video gaming paraphernalia as I can get my hands on, especially when it comes to hardware. With over 40 systems including oldies like the ColecoVision and Intellivision, obscurities like the CD-i and 3DO, and the latest and greatest including the Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, 3DS, and PS Vita, I get easily overwhelmed. Most of the time you can find me firmly nestled sometime between 1985 and 1995 when it comes to my games of choice, but I’m also having a great time seeing what the 8th generation has to offer.
