Months after the launch of the Sony PlayStation 4, we were still waiting for the pre-load feature that would download purchased games before the release date to become a reality. This week, Sony finally confirmed the feature and published a list of upcoming games that would take advantage of the feature.
Some of these games include Battlefield Hardline, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Destiny, Far Cry 4, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and many more. The first game that will exhibit the PlayStation 4’s pre-load feature will be Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, to be released on June 24th.
In order to use this feature you need to pre-order your desired game through the PlayStation Store. A couple of days before the game launches, your PlayStation 4 will complete all major downloads and installations for that particular pre-order. If your PlayStation 4 is in standby mode it will automatically start the pre-load and download by default. In the words of Sony, “All you have to do is pre-order the game, make sure your PS4 remains in standby mode, and sit back and relax.”
There’s really not a whole lot to it but the beautiful thing about pre-load is that as soon as the game launches you will be able to play the game without waiting for the file to download. Sony will also throw in a countdown timer so that you know exactly when you can launch your game.
While right now the pre-load feature is focused on PlayStation 4 pre-orders, Sony announced that this feature will be extended to PlayStation 3s in the future.
