One of the only surprises that came out of the Sony E3 2017 presentation Monday evening was the reemergence of one of the PlayStation 2’s most beloved titles, Shadow of the Colossus.
It was easy to see that graphically, the game has been retooled and was looking absolutely gorgeous, however, it left many wondering if this was a remaster, or a remake.
Sony President Shuhei Yoshida sat down with Japanese gaming outlet Famitsu during the course of E3, and has confirmed that this new PlayStation 4 version of Shadow of the Colossus will indeed be a full remake of the original game.
In his comments, as translated by Siliconera, Yoshida explains that while the content of the PS4 version remains identical to the original PS2 version, all of the art assets are being remade to take advantage of the vastly superior power of the PlayStation 4.
He also said that they will be updating the controls for the game, which had been notoriously difficult to use in some instances, however, players wishing for a more authentic feel can opt for the original scheme.
Shadow of the Colossus will be released on the PlayStation 4 in 2018.
