Does the world need another shooter?
It’s a fair question for a consumer to ask considering the abundance of quality material currently occupying the genre, however, it’s more noteworthy when a developer asks that question.
That’s the question that developer of the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, MercurySteam asked themselves; answering with a resounding yes! Yes we do need another shooter!
The result of their internal inquiry is Raiders of the Broken Planet; a 4-on-1 team-based shooter that mixes elements of Evolve‘s unique multi-player concepts with character-driven action found in something like Overwatch.
Players can team together as one of Raiders of the Broken Planet’s colorful raiders, as they attempt to gain control over a mysterious natural resource known as the Aleph, or they can play as the Antagonist: a deadly monster hell-bent on defending against the invading raiders at all costs.
Raiders of the Broken Planet’s story revolves around the quest for control of the Aleph. This new form of energy drew numerous raiders to a far flung planet across the galaxy, however, they have since become trapped on the distant world and have broken off into numerous warring factions.
While the scenario may sound familiar to sci-fi fans, it’s the beautiful art-style, colorful cast, and faced-paced action that could draw players into Raiders of the Broken Planet. Gameplay looks varied as well, mixing robust and cool-looking hand-to-hand sequences in with the shooting action across a number of multi-player modes, and even a single-player campaign.
