Microsoft Head of Xbox Division Phil Spencer confirmed in an interview today that Rise of the Tomb Raider is a “timed exclusive.”
Speaking with Eurogamer, Spencer said “Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn’t buy it. I don’t own the franchise.”
Spencer also noted; “What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don’t control it. So all I can talk about is the deal I have. I don’t know where else Tomb Raider goes.”
Spencer also refused to discus the duration of Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s exclusivity or any other specific terms.
The interview comes on the heels of an announcement made at yesterday’s Microsoft Press event at the 2014 Gamescom convention in Germany. At that briefing, Microsoft announced that the game would be an Xbox exclusive title, which we covered yesterday.
So there you have it. The door remains open for Rise of the Tomb Raider to arrive on other platforms besides Xbox One, past holiday 2015.
