2. Wright Brand Bacon
This is that quality butcher cut bacon that I’ve wanted to try for quite some time. I’ve been entirely reluctant to spend $9+ on bacon, but I’ve seen the commercials and I’ve seen the package staring at me from the bottom of the bacon section. The package doesn’t play around. It’s not bright. It’s not gimmicky. It’s simple, straightforward, and bold. I’m hoping the taste and quality is the same.
This gourmet bacon sends off a wonderful aroma. That smell that got you out of bed when you were a kid. Pair that scent with the sound of the sizzle and you’ll be transported back to your childhood. The first thing I noticed was the high fat content cooking out and my frying pan filled up VERY fast with bacon grease. At least it’s cooking out, but that sure is a lot of fat. But then again, each strip weighs in at 14 grams, which is approximately 40% more meat than traditional thick cuts. The second thing I noticed was the shape of the bacon. It holds its shape very well and doesn’t crinkle up like most bacon does. The ends didn’t curl up either. The third thing I noticed was that it was cooking evenly without burning. This is very nice and welcome.
The flavor is exceptionally rich and salty. The smokiness from the applewood chips is ever so slight and provides a great wood-smoky finish. The salt content is perfectly balanced and provides that saltiness that you crave when you think of eating bacon, but it’s not as overly salted as Hormel Black Label Thick Sliced bacon.
The texture of the bacon is superb and meaty. It’s thick, like a breakfast center cut country ham. But the crispiness is marvelous as it breaks off easy but the semi-soft center keeps it together as well.
Overall, Wright Brand bacon did not fail to please. In my opinion, it is FAR too expensive to eat on the regular. But if you are looking for a crispy salty treat, then look no further. This is hands down one of the best pre-packaged bacons I’ve ever had. This bacon receives a very high score for its balanced flavor, solid texture, and ease of cooking. It’s probably the easiest bacon I’ve ever made. I only had to flip it once and it was done. They didn’t curl up all over the place, making it hard to flip or anything. Again, very expensive, but as a rare luxury, it’s worth the 10 spot.
